ROCK BAND CLASSES

Rock Band Classes in Montreal — Join a Real Band, Rehearse, Record & Perform Live

Have you always dreamed of being in a rock band? Now you can make it happen. West Island Music Academy’s Rock Band program is Montreal’s premier group music experience for musicians — beginners, intermediate players, and advanced musicians alike. Whether you play guitar, bass, drums, keys, or sing, WIMA builds real bands around real people and gets them on a real stage. Bands are formed by skill level, musical style, and instrument combination — so you’re always playing with people at your level. Every semester ends with WIMApalooza, WIMA’s signature live concert, plus a professionally recorded music video. This isn’t a music class. This is the band experience.

How the Rock Band Program Works

WIMA’s Rock Band Program is structured to give students the full band experience from the very first rehearsal. Students begin with a tryout, are placed with compatible musicians, and then rehearse weekly with a coach to build songs, teamwork, timing, and stage confidence.

Tryout

Book a tryout session so our coaches can assess your instrument, skill level, and musical style. This ensures every band is well-matched.

Band Placement

You’re matched with other musicians at a similar skill level, with complementary instruments, and compatible musical tastes. Bands typically include guitar, bass, drums, keys, and vocals.

Weekly Rehearsals

Your band meets weekly for a 90-minute coached rehearsal. Each session is led by a professional band coach who guides your musical development, group dynamics, timing, and stage presence.

Who Is the Rock Band Program For?

WIMA’s Rock Band Program is designed for kids and teens who want to experience what it feels like to play in a real band. Whether your child is a beginner ready for their first group experience, an intermediate player looking to perform with others, or an advanced musician wanting a full band challenge, this program gives them the right environment to grow. Students are matched by age, instrument, skill level, and musical style so every band feels balanced, supportive, and exciting.

Beginners

You’ve been playing for a year or two and want to experience what it’s like to play with other musicians for the first time. WIMA places you with a beginner-level band so the pace is right.

Intermediate Players

You know your instrument and want to push further — tighter timing, better dynamics, real repertoire. The Rock Band program gives you the ensemble context to level up fast.

Advanced Musicians

You’re an experienced player who’s been practicing alone and wants the energy, creativity, and accountability of a real band. WIMA’s advanced-level bands are for you.

All genres and styles are welcome. Rock, pop, funk, blues, classic rock, alternative — bands are formed around the music you love.

What You’ll Experience in Every Rehearsal

WIMA Rock Band rehearsals are coached, structured, and designed to fast-track your growth as a band musician. Every 90-minute session covers:

$

Song Rehearsal & Arrangement: Your band works through a set list of songs you collectively choose, developing tight arrangements and group sound.

$

Timing & Groove: A core focus is developing locked-in timing and ensemble feel — the foundation of every great band.

$

Stage Presence & Performance Skills: Coaches guide you on how to own the stage, communicate with bandmates mid-performance, and connect with an audience.

$

Equipment Proficiency: Learn how to use your gear, manage sound on stage, and operate within a live band setup.

$

Conflict Resolution & Band Dynamics: Real bands navigate creative disagreements — WIMA coaches help your band build the communication skills that keep the music moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rock Band Classes

Q1: What are rock band classes at WIMA?

WIMA’s Rock Band program groups musicians of similar skill levels into real bands for weekly 90-minute coached rehearsals. Every semester ends with a live performance at WIMAvpalooza — WIMA’s signature concert — plus a professionally recorded multi-track music video.

Q2: Are WIMA’s rock band classes suitable for beginners?

Yes. Bands are matched by skill level, so complete beginners are placed with other beginner-level musicians. You don’t need prior band experience — just the ability to play your instrument at a basic level and a willingness to show up and commit to your bandmates.

Q3: Where are rock band classes held in Montreal?

WIMA’s Rock Band program runs across four locations in Greater Montreal: Pointe-Claire, Côte Saint-Luc, Beaconsfield, and Saint-Laurent. Classes are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.

Q:4 How much do rock band classes cost at WIMA?

Rock Band classes are $35 per session for current WIMA students and $40 per session for non-WIMA students. Sessions are 90 minutes long and held weekly throughout the semester.

Q5: What instruments are accepted in WIMA’s Rock Band program?

All instruments are welcome — guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals. Bands are built around available instrument combinations, skill levels, and the musical style preferences of the group.

Q6: Do I need to audition to join?

Yes. Prospective band members book a tryout session so coaches can assess skill level, instrument, and musical style. This ensures every band is well-matched. Please note that completing a tryout does not guarantee placement — it depends on band availability and fit.

Q7: What is WIMA palooza?

WIMApalooza is WIMA’s flagship end-of-semester concert, where every Rock Band performs a live set in front of a real audience. Each band also records a professional multi-track music video as part of the semester experience.

Q8: What is WIMA’s cancellation policy for rock band classes?

WIMA has a 24-hour cancellation policy. With sufficient notice, our admin team will arrange a makeup session. In the case of illness or a family emergency, a makeup lesson is guaranteed. Students may receive up to 3 Make-Up Credits within any 150-day window. The 150-day period begins on the date the credit is issued, not the date of the cancelled lesson.

Q9: Are there tax credits available for music lessons in Quebec?

Yes. The Quebec provincial government offers tax credits for music lessons. WIMA students may be eligible — consult the Quebec government website or ask our team for more details when you enrol.
