Drum playing techniques
The drum is a very physical instrument, and poor technique can lead to injuries. With a few hours per week, students will learn a musical style and how to play without injuring their hands, arms, and back, as well as how to “hit hard” without hurting themselves. Each week of practice will allow the students to learn different techniques for exploring rhythms, such as the basics, independence, solos, the double bass drum pedal, and improvisation, to name just a few.

Mike
I played in a local Drum and Bugle Corps for 3 years from ages 8-11. There I learned to read a music though most of the learning came from watching and listening to players play. What Drum Corps taught me was practice makes perfect, sometimes boring or monotonous but necessary. That has been part of my mantra so to speak. If the effort is put in, the result should come in some way. Maybe not as we envision it all the time but it’s success nonetheless if you can make it through a piece of music that once, you could not.
As I went through the High School music program, I studied Drumset, Snare drum, tympani and Xylophone/Vibraphone. I learned to sight read and perform at a higher level due to the incredible music teacher we had.
I have played in several local bands from Rock, country, punk and metal. Both original and cover groups.Every group was another learning opportunity. I purposely put myself in “Jamming” situations as I feel it is truly how any musician grows their arsenal and craft and knowledge of the instrument.
My goal at WIMA is to help facilitate every student’s need to learn the drums in their basic form to whatever level the student is aspiring to. Starting with basics like stick holding and posture/body placement behind a kit, I’ll work to unlock each student’s animalistic ability behind the kit. Everyone deserves to be “Animal” from the muppets
I look forward to meeting and helping you at WIMA to teach students the drums in all their fun and glory.

As an educator, I hope that my passion for music and teaching will allow you to take your drumming to the next level. Let’s embark on a rhythmic journey together, where learning and enjoyment harmonize seamlessly!”

Over the years, Troy has explored diverse genres, performing hardcore punk with Flash Back and pop/indie with Lova Lamp and Tooth. He continues to play in bands in Montreal.
