Why Choose Group Piano Lessons Over Private Lessons?
Many families searching for piano lessons near me in Montreal assume private lessons are the only option, but group piano classes offer unique benefits that private lessons may not provide. Students learn alongside peers, which encourages motivation, listening skills, teamwork, and musical confidence. Group lessons also help children experience rhythm, performance, and ensemble playing in a more social setting. For many young learners, this creates a fun, supportive environment that keeps them engaged and excited to continue learning piano.
Social Learning & Motivation
Playing alongside peers creates energy, accountability, and shared excitement. Students motivate each other naturally — when one learner masters a new piece, others are inspired to do the same. This is especially powerful for children aged 6–12.
Ensemble Skills
Group lessons teach students to listen, adapt, and perform with others. These ensemble skills are foundational for any musician who wants to play beyond the living room.
Confidence & Stage Presence
Regular performance within the group setting reduces stage anxiety over time. WIMA students perform at semester recitals, and those experiences begin right here in the group classroom.

Frequently Asked Questions About Group Piano Classes
Q1: Are your group piano lessons suitable for complete beginners?
Yes, absolutely. WIMA’s Melody Keys (ages 6–9) and group piano programs are designed specifically for beginners with zero prior experience. No keyboard at home? No problem — we’ll guide you on what you need before your first class.
Q2: Where are your piano classes located in Montreal?
West Island Music Academy offers group piano lessons at four locations across Greater Montreal: Pointe-Claire, Côte Saint-Luc, Beaconsfield, and Saint-Laurent. All campuses feature dedicated practice studios and state-of-the-art classrooms.
Q3: How much do group piano lessons cost at WIMA?
Group piano classes are $30 per session. Sessions are one hour long and held weekly. We also offer a half-price 30-minute trial lesson on any instrument — a great way to try before you commit.
Q4: What is the class size for WIMA group piano lessons?
We limit all group piano classes to a maximum of 6 students. This small-group format ensures each student receives individual attention from the teacher while still benefiting from the energy and motivation of a group setting.
Q5: What piano songs will my child learn?
WIMA teachers guide students through age-appropriate piano songs for beginners, including popular tunes kids love. As students progress, they explore classical pieces, contemporary songs, and music from genres they enjoy. The goal is always to connect students with music that motivates them.
Q6: Can I switch from group lessons to private piano lessons later?
Yes. Many WIMA students begin with group lessons and transition to private piano lessons as their skills develop. Our piano teachers work with families to determine the best path for each student’s goals.
Q7: Does WIMA have recitals where students can perform?
Yes! At the end of every semester, WIMA hosts recitals where students perform for family and friends. These events build confidence and give students a real performance milestone to work toward. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
Q8: What is WIMA's cancellation policy for piano classes?
WIMA has a 24-hour cancellation policy. With sufficient notice, our admin team will arrange a makeup class. In the case of illness or a family emergency, a makeup lesson is guaranteed. Students may receive up to 3 Make-Up Credits within any 150-day window. The 150-day period begins on the date the credit is issued, not the date of the cancelled lesson.
Q9: Are there any tax credits available for piano lessons in Quebec?
Yes. The Quebec provincial government offers tax credits for music lessons, including piano classes. WIMA students may be eligible — consult the Quebec government website or ask our team for more details when you enrol.
